STORY
Our journey began with the challenges every designer faced: endless prototypes, rising costs, and too many compromises. Creativity was getting lost in the process. VARIANT3D was founded to change that by rethinking textiles from the ground up and creating a space where vision and manufacturing finally work as one.
Launched in 2018 as Variant Malibu, our early work focused on prototyping sustainable 3D-knit sweaters for brands and collaborators such as Pierre Cardin and NBC Universal Monsters. That experience revealed a bigger opportunity: the need for intuitive, accessible tools to unlock textile innovation at scale. Cofounders Garrett Gerson and William Samosir built LOOP with this vision in mind, grounded not only in software engineering but also in the craft itself, shaped by hands-on training with senior knit engineers.
Today, VARIANT3D is powered by a team committed to bridging design and production, preserving decades of textile expertise, and empowering fearless creation. His technical innovations span computational geometry, real-time simulation engines, and machine learning systems that optimize knitting patterns for performance and manufacturability. Under his leadership, LOOP became a market-ready MVP now deployed across multiple industries, democratizing advanced textile production at scale.
